The NMPFFA works with MDA all over New Mexico to improve our members involvement, increase the donations collected from the community and send our own fire fighters to MDA Camp as counsillors for kids with muscular dystrophy. Fire fighters have long had a special relationship with the Muscular Dystrophy Association. This year the Albuquerque  Fire Fighters raised $53,108, Bernalillo County Fire Fighters giving them hell by raising $21,863, double from last year. Up north, Santa Fe Local 2059 raised $13,000, Los Alamos Local 3276 improved to $5,000. Farmington raised $9,600. Some Locals are not participating, often because their city won't allow them to stand on the street and collect because of misapplication of anti-panhandling laws. These can be temporarily waived during the Fill the Boot campaign! The NMPFFA will assist your Local in working with your government to find a way to allow you to participate. Contact us for ideas. We also have applications for Camp Counsillors which should be submitted by early spring. Contact Emily Kane NMPFFA President at 710-7101 mlekane@comcast.net or Amanda Bassett at 505-828-1331.

This year we are proud to announce that the New Mexico Professional Fire Fighters have reached the 100K benchmark in Statewide funds raised for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Top honors go to the Albuquerque Chapter of Local 244 for their most money raised total of $69,094. Bernalillo County Chapter of Local 244 raised $17,488, making this local chapter the most improved. In a three way tie, Los Alamos Local  3279 raised $7550, Santa Fe Local 2059 raised $7550 and Farmington Local 2850 raised $7548, which is remarkable. Sunland Park Local 4737 with $2477 is the rookie of the year along with Gallup Local 4296 bringing in $1521. The MDA Coordinator of 2009 goes to Ahren Griego for his hard work organizing the fund raising for the AFD. He deserves lots of credit for motivating the fire fighters and the proof is in the result. Other Locals involved in MDA fundraising are Las Cruces Local 2362 raising $2100, Carlsbad Local 1687 raising $1300, Deming Local 4251 raising $1000 and Artesia Local 3814 raising $750. The grand Total for all the Locals in the State of New Mexico is $118,378, a new record and the first time our state's fire fighters have raised over $100,000. Way to go!
